Ultrasound Scan:
Post RFA, EVLT, UGS Assessment

What to Expect During Your Ultrasound Scan

-

+

This scan usually takes between 15-20 minutes to complete.

A Post RFA, EVLT, UGS ultrasound study involves the assessment of the treated varicose veins; usually one week and one month following a procedure.

This ultrasound scan will require direct contact with your legs from the groin crease to the ankle. We will require trousers or shorts to be removed and the compression stocking/s will need to either be pulled down to the ankles or removed.

As the areas treated are likely to be sore and bruised (particularly at the time of the one week scan) some people may find the ultrasound scan to be uncomfortable; however we will do our best to limit this discomfort and complete the scan in a timely manner.

Why Do We Do This Scan

-

+

Following treatment of your varicose veins you will have at least two follow up appointments. The time frame these occurs differs depending on your treating doctor, but generally occur one week and one month post treatment.

The one-week scan is done to see how the veins are reacting to the treatment, but predominately to rule out any scleroma extension into the deep veins (deep vein scleroma).

The one-month scan is predominately done to determine how well the veins have reacted to the treatment.

If deep vein scleroma is present, your doctor may request for you to have an additional scan/s.
