Vascular Ultrasound Australia is an independently owned and operated diagnostic imaging service. VUA stands as a testament to excellence, founded and meticulously overseen by specialised Vascular Sonographers. With exclusive training and specialty qualifications, our team boasts over 20 years of combined experience. Our professional journey spans diverse settings, including collaboration with Vascular Surgeons in private sectors, renowned hospitals such as the Alfred and the Austin public hospitals, and various radiology imaging clinics throughout Victoria.

Vascular Ultrasound Australia was designed to both create public awareness of the ultrasound industry but also offer a specialty ultrasound service working to the highest possible standards. We have significant experience working within both the public and private sectors. We have worked very closely with a number of Vascular Surgeons across Victoria and Sydney and so are acutely aware of what information they require from your scan. Over many years we have refined our skills by comparing our scans with the angiograms and procedures our patients have had which reassures us we are producing consistently accurate and reliable scans.

Sonographers are not all trained equally. Each Sonographer has their own special skill set and level of training within a given field. This is the main cause for discrepancies between ultrasound studies. A qualified specialist Vascular Sonographer is solely trained and highly experienced in vascular ultrasound.

We are completely transparent about the training, experience and qualifications our Sonographers. All this information is openly available to all of our patients. We are committed to providing an exceptional bedside manner and attention to detail; however if for whatever reason you have an issue or concern you would like to raise please report this to us here. As there is no regulating body for Sonographers this means that there is no formal complaint system to escalate your concerns in any ultrasound clinic. We take your concerns regarding any members of our staff or a poor experience of our service extremely seriously. We will investigate all issues brought to our attention and we will do everything necessary to rectify the issue. 

Vascular ultrasound, a non-invasive diagnostic imaging technique, provides a detailed assessment of blood flow and circulation in the body's veins and arteries. Utilizing high-frequency sound waves, ultrasound creates precise images of blood vessels and the dynamic movement of blood cells. These images serve as a valuable tool for identifying various conditions, including peripheral artery disease, carotid disease, deep vein thrombosis, and varicose veins.

Our commitment to excellence is evident in our choice of professionals. Vascular ultrasound at VUA is exclusively performed by specialist-trained Vascular Sonographers. Recognized for their mastery in handling the intricacies of these scans, our Sonographers are specialists in the field, ensuring accuracy and reliability in diagnosis.

A Vascular Sonographer specialises in imaging the intricate network of veins and arteries within the body. At VUA, our dedicated Vascular Sonographers undergo exclusive training in vascular ultrasound, equipping them with extensive expertise in the complexities of vascular anatomy. 

​

Our Sonographers are an elite team who are specialty vascular trained, ASAR registered (can bulk bill), highly experienced and qualified. All Sonographers proudly wear an ID tag with their name, ASAR ID and qualification. All Sonographers have an up-to-date Police Check, Working with Children's Check and First Aid training. VUA provides access to ongoing training and support to all Sonographers and ensure CPD requirements are met.

Students under VUA will always be overseen by a a highly experienced and qualified Specialist Vascular Tutor Sonographer. All students will be immediately recognisable by their ID tag and student lanyard. Student Sonographers will hold student ASAR registration and be enrolled in either the UniSA or Western Sydney University vascular ultrasound postgraduate course. They will introduce themselves and disclose their student status to all patients. When a student has commenced scanning, a student Sonographer will never be left to scan unsupervised with all scans re-checked and reviewed by the Specialist Vascular Tutor Sonographer.

Our Nurses are:

• Fully qualified and APRHA regulated nursing staff specialty trained in RFA and UGS procedure

• Covid Safe

• Have had 2 vaccines + booster​

• Cleaning of equipment and surfaces after each use

Many vascular ultrasound scans require the patient to remove their trousers and/or other clothing items as ultrasound requires direct contact with the skin to work.

​

We are acutely aware that any scan requiring the removal of clothing may make the patient feel uncomfortable or conflict with their beliefs and values.

​

Gowns are provided however the Sonographer will still need to scan up to the groin crease for many vascular ultrasound studies.
